Tay and Night

A few years ago, my girlfriend Emma took some of my brutalist photography and turned it into Christmas Card designs. The mixture of austere concrete architecture photography and whimsical festive designs seemed to catch a mood, and the cards were featured in various cultural websites including Fast Company. We sold out more than once, and even took a wholesale order from the Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth.

In 2020 we were contacted by V&A Dundee, a brand new museum of design on the banks of the river Tay, who wanted something similar for their own institution, so I drove up and spent a few days shooting this architecture photographer’s dream from all angles, day and night. I’ve included some of my favourite images from the shoot here, but you can see the finished Christmas cards on the museum’s website here, and they are also featuring two of the photos as limited edition prints which you can see here and here.

The museum was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, and was inspired by the rugged granite cliffs found on the coast of Scotland. It opened in 2017 and has kickstarted something of a cultural revolution in Dundee, with plans announced recently to open a new branch of the Eden Project in the city.

If you would like to hire me to shoot your recent project, whether commercial, residential, hospitality, or any other sector, or want to know more about how I can help you, please get in touch!
